In social justice movements all across the world, people are using story-sharing, listening, and deep and thoughtful conversations to build connected communities. There is a strong desire to create places (virtual and in person) to be real, to learn and to be transformed. This moment is an opportunity for Exhale to go big with engaging communities on the pro-voice approach to abortion conversations.
We cannot do this without your support.
The power of our pro-voice approach has so much to offer at this moment for women, gender non-conforming folks, families, and movement builders. As we face this reality, we are also aware that our model has not changed significantly over the last 15 years of our existence. While we have gained expertise in providing nonjudgmental support for those with abortion experiences, we recognize there is opportunity for us to create deeper networks, stronger regional relationships, and to engage with more people nationally. We are excited to shift the way we do business to position us well for the future.
Our focus for the next iteration of Exhale includes these four areas:
- Developing a sustainable model for post-abortion support, and leveraging technology to train volunteers and scale our engagement with people with abortion experiences
- Engaging with faith communities/clergy and the reproductive health community on using pro-voice within their work
- Hosting pro-voice trainings on college/university campuses
- Hosting abortion storytelling events and pro-voice conversations in cities across the country
We will be pausing the talkline beginning July 1st. This means we will no longer have the active line; however, we are discussing now with staff and our volunteer counselors an interim plan to offer occasional pro-voice support via email or phone calls.
Here are three ways you can get involved in this transition:
Support our Board-initiated Crowdfunding campaign. The fundraising campaign, with a goal of $60,000, will be released at the end of next week, highlighting the future work and direction of Exhale with the goal of boosting pro-voice into the future.
Introduce us to your networks in faith communities and within higher education. We are taking our pro-voice training on the road to provide resources for these communities to help shift the culture of abortion in this country.
Follow us on social media! We are re-working our website, opening up an Instagram account, and planning a Pro-Voice Conversations webinar series featuring partners and friends of Exhale discussing how they use pro-voice in their lives, personally and professionally. Facebook | Twitter | Instagram
While we are in challenging times, Exhale is ready to boldly lead with our pro-voice message of hope, connection, respect, and resilience.
