What does “abortion wellbeing” mean? 🤔 In What does “abortion wellbeing” mean? 🤔

In 2010, Exhale Pro-Voice declared April to be “Abortion Wellbeing Month.” We did that in response to then-Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty declaring April “Abortion Recovery Month.”

Despite longstanding consensus by mental health organizations that abortions do not cause mental health concerns, Pawlenty was implying that abortions were something to “recover” from.

➡️ Let us be clear: Abortions do not cause harm.

In fact, we know that being turned away from having an abortion when one is sought can contribute to physical, emotional, relational, and financial distress!

But we still might have some big, complicated feelings to process around our abortions.

💭 Would I have made a different decision if my circumstances were different?

💭 What does this decision say about me?

💭 How would my friends and family view me if they knew I had an abortion?

At Exhale Pro-Voice,
Abortion Wellbeing Month is a time to reaffirm the care that we provide to ourselves, provide to others, and seek for ourselves around our abortions.

For more than ***20 years*** Exhale Pro-Voice has provided a nonjudgmental space for people to talk about their abortions.

Will you help us train the next cohort of peer counselors?

Everyone who donates $30 or more to our campaign will receive a copy of the book “Pro-Voice” so that you can keep making space for people to talk about their experiences. (Note: We can only mail books within the US, while supplies last!)

What are some simple ways that you tend to your wellbeing? What are some ways you support others’ wellbeing?

Today, a Texas judge invalidated the FDA’s 23-ye Today, a Texas judge invalidated the FDA’s 23-year approval of the medication, mifepristone. Less than half an hour after that ruling, a Washington judge ordered that the FDA make no changes to the availability of mifepristone.

Mifepristone is a safe and effective medication that blocks pregnancy hormones. It is commonly used in medication abortion.

While mifepristone is still available, we know this news can be stressful.

We know that people’s mental health is harmed if they cannot access abortion. We know that anti-abortion legal actions worsen abortion stigma. Abortion stigma is harmful to our mental health.

Regardless of what you feel right now, Exhale Pro-Voice is here to talk and offer exceptional peer counseling support: 617-749-2948.
At Exhale Pro-Voice, we know just how powerful sto At Exhale Pro-Voice, we know just how powerful storytelling can be.

Sharing our stories is what connects us to others, helps us feel more supported and connected — especially when they are nonjudgmentally received!

In fact, the power of genuine storytelling — and nonjudgmental engagement with other people's stories — is what inspired Exhale Pro-Voice more than 20 years ago.

We believe that everyone deserves a nonjudgmental, supportive space to share their abortion stories.

Our textline counselors receive nearly 30 hours of training in our nonjudgmental, Pro-Voice approach —ensuring that every person who texts us receives high-quality support.

For more than 20 years, our peer counselors have supported thousands of people who needed someone to talk to. 💞

But as a volunteer-run organization, we can only do so much.

In honor of Abortion Well-Being Month, we’re mailing copies of the book Pro-Voice to everyone who donates $30 to or more to our fundraising campaign (within the US, while supplies last).
