Artificial Intelligence Use Policy

Purpose

At Exhale Pro-Voice, we recognize the rapidly evolving landscape of artificial intelligence and its potential applications. We also recognize the potential harms and misuse that could arise from AI tools being used in Exhale’s work, including internal programming, textline services, and any externally-facing communications.

Given the sensitive nature of our work providing after-abortion emotional support and our commitment to reproductive justice, we prioritize the security and confidentiality of our texters and volunteers above all else.

Policy Statement

At this time, the Exhale Pro-Voice Board of Directors strongly recommends that all counselors, volunteers and staff DO NOT use AI tools in any capacity for Exhale-related work or service provision.

This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Chatbots and large language models (e.g., ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini)
  • AI-powered transcription or summarization tools
  • Automated content generation for communications, social media, or materials

Rationale

This recommendation is based on:

  1. Security Concerns: Uncertainty about data privacy, storage, and potential access by third parties
  2. Political Landscape: The evolving regulatory environment around reproductive health information
  3. Mission Alignment: Ensuring all interactions remain human-centered and values-aligned
  4. Safety: Protecting texters, counselors and volunteers from potential data exposure

Personal Use Exception

While we support the responsible and ethical use of AI tools for volunteers’ personal, non-work-related usage, such use must not involve any Exhale-related content, texter or internal information, or organizational materials.

Future Guidance

As the use of AI tools becomes better understood and guidance from values-aligned partners is issued, we will provide updates, guidance, and resources to keep the Exhale Pro-Voice community informed about our policies.
