Catholic government worker story

Many years ago, I worked for Medicaid as a hospital representative. A good Italian cafeteria Catholic in her early 30’s living the good life. I had no feeling about abortion one way or the other. My coworker received requests from physicians to terminate pregnancies for clients. When the first of many came in for a 10-year-old victim of incest, I was stunned. Then for a 12-year-old, and a 13-year-old, and then for a woman whose fetus had no brain stem but was merely a beating heart.

In order to process this topic, the men with white hair began to understand a woman’s reproductive rights are personal to each of us. No father is going to let his child die because she cannot physically carry a child because either 1) he is Catholic, or 2) the law says saving her life is a crime.

There are many stories such as these not being told. Women need to bond together and help our sisters listen.
