Concerned Mother

I was 17 when I got pregnant, because I was stupid and didn’t go to Planned Parenthood to get contraceptives.

I schedule my abortion appointment, but fortunately miscarried a few days before. I never admitted to my mother I got pregnant, but it did finally ask her to take me for an exam and to get me on the pill.

I stayed on the pill until I was 33, and my husband and I knew we were ready to start a family. During those 16 years, if I missed a pill I immediately went out and bought and used condoms, until I knew the pill was working again.

After I went off the pill it took us 3 months to get pregnant (never happens right away when you are planning it). As soon as it was safe to go back on the pill after my daughter was born I did so. As soon as my daughter was old enough I discussed the importance of safe sex.

I took her to Planned Parenthood for an exam and they charged us nothing and sent in a free prescription for pills. While I will always believe in a women’s right to choose, we need to spend more money on promoting safe sex!
